How to apply and where to find jobs in Canada

Read this article if you are planning to live and work in Canada. This includes the updated lists of jobs from POEA website along with accredited employment agencies.

According to Canada Immigration Newsletter website, the Philippines top the lists of countries with most immigrants having issued permanent residence last year, 2014. More than 40,000 Filipinos were given permanent residency according to the site, and the country also issued nearly 47,000 visitor visas to Filipinos in 2014, a 56 percent increase since 2006.
The figure could encourage more young and skilled Filipinos to seek better jobs in Canada.

Migrating to Canada

Kent relayed to the Filipino public the good news on Canada’s immigration system

“We have some interesting development that has taken place over the last few weeks in terms of the Federal Skilled Workers Program that has been retooled to make it even more responsive to the Canadian need and make it clear and transparent to persons who want to apply to immigrate to Canada as a Federal Skilled Worker,” he said.
But he said that the first decision to make for the person who is willing to work in Canada is whether he will work permanently or just a temporary foreign worker.

According to Kent, Canada offers four different types of programs—the Federal Skilled Worker, the Federal Skilled Trades Workers, the Canadian Experience Class, and through the Provincial Nominee–that a person can use to immigrate to Canada based on their skills.

1. The Federal Skilled Worker requires at least 1 year work experience, language, and education training according to Kent. There are 24 jobs listed under this type. Among the list of occupations are engineering managers, financial and investment analysts, geoscientists, civil engineers, computer engineers, land surveyors, medical laboratory technologists, cardiology technicians and electrophysiological diagnostic technologists

2. Federal Skilled Trades Program designed for immigrants who are in occupations such as pipe fitters, machinists, welders and mechanics, and other skilled workers with certificates (not necessarily college bachelors graduate)

3. Another way to immigrate to Canada is through the Provincial Nominees. He said provinces have a better idea of what their needs are. This type of program is seldom used by Filipino immigrants.

4. The last program, the Canada Experience Class, is designed for persons who are already working in Canada.

Filipino professionals and skilled workers fall under the first and second category above. The Federal Skilled Trades Program is what most of our skilled workers are chasing after gaining enough local experience and TESDA certificates.
