Canada Creates 59,000 Jobs, More Filipino Workers Needed for New Positions

Canada is rapidly recovering after a disastrous first quarter as the outlook suddenly seems a lot brighter.

“I think it’s pretty clear that the Canadian economy is going to rebalance over the next two to three years,” said Jeremy Lawson, chief economist at Edinburgh-based Standard Life Investments.

“You’ve been through a period where the high level of oil prices and the strong investment in that sector — particularly being reflected in the strong growth of Alberta — is unwinding,” he said. “So Ontario, where a lot of that import-competing manufacturing and non-oil related manufacturing is located, is certainly going to improve relative to Alberta.”

The jump in May employment was the best performance since October 2014, when 62,200 more people found work. The previous big gain was 93,000 in April 2012, the federal data agency said.

Last month’s net new job total surpassed economists forecast for an increase of about 10,000 positions.

Most of those new jobs created during May were in Ontario, with 43,900, followed by British Columbia, at 30,600. Nova Scotia gained 3,700 workers. POEA office  also experienced an increase of job posting from agencies that caters Canadian companies.

At the time of this writing, there are hundreds of Canadian employment positions available in POEA website. The jobs includes welders, machinists, pipe fitters, machine operators, saw fillers,  grocery attendants, maintenance technicians, food counter attendants, cooks, farm workers, painters, industrial meat cutters, assemblers, warehousemen, truck drivers, kitchen crew, instrument technicians, mechanics, pharmacists, carpenters, and shift managers.

Although Canada suffered a first quarter increase in unemployment rate, economists said the country still have a very large backlog on skilled workers and need foreign workers to fill the void.

Filipinos who are interested to apply for the above positions are suggested to go directly to the Philippine Overseas Employment Office (POEA), or to accredited agencies posted on POEA websites that lists the specific jobs.

POEA once again remind all applicants to be wary of fake recruiters who solicit unspecified amount as processing fees.

Relocation of 200+ Japanese Factories from China to PH Starts

Japan is making sure that the bully will pay its due when time comes. The world is losing interest in China. The recent announcement of Microsoft to close its two factories and transfer to Vietnam could cost 9,000 Chinese jobs. The same thing can be devastating in the years to come as Japan announces moving at least 200 factories from China to the Philippines.

According to South China Morning Post, six Japanese and Taiwanese companies turned down China and preferred Philippines for their next factory locations.

“Japan’s biggest printer maker and electronics giant Epson has no plan to expand its production plant in China due to increasing labor cost and deteriorating quality”, Epson Philippines country manager Toshimitsu Tanaka told reporter. Epson is currently building its biggest manufacturing facility in its current site in Batangas. The completed factory will be Epson’s biggest ever with 10 hectares of total floor area. The facility will likely to operate next year according to Tanaka.

Based on the statement released by Nobuo Fuiji, head of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines Inc., since last year there are some Japanese firms started moving their operation in the Philippines. They believe that Philippines is a growing country and it is competitive enough to cater big investments from them, according to PhilStar.

Japan announced last week that it is seeking permission from the Philippine government to use the country’s military bases to support US military pivot forces. The details are not yet clear but a possible agreement between the concerned parties can be done sooner or later according to a PH military spokesperson.

Japanese bicycle maker Shimano has just opened a P1.2B facility in Batangas, and dozens more factories are likely to follow according to the Japanese Embassy.

Mitsubishi Power Industries is another giant who is scheduled to move to Philippines according to latest news.

Japanese watchmaker Citizen also shut down its China factories and the fate has yet to be decided whether it will move to the Philippines or Vietnam.

Another 300 Chinese workers lost their job after electronic giant Panasonic closed one of its Chinese factories.

Both the Philippine business sector and the government is expecting a stronger democratic and economic ties with Japan amid growing Spratly tensions. Both countries, including Vietnam share the same views against China’s illegal land-grabbing activities in South China Sea.

List of POEA's Accredited Agencies for New Zealand, Apply only to these Agencies

Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) has released the list of recruitment agencies authorized to deploy Filipino workers (OFWs) for New Zealand. To be safe from illegal recruiters, apply only to these agencies.

According to POEA chief Hans Leo J. Cacdac, there is no government to government hiring agreement between the Philippines and New Zealand, hence, POEA is not directly recruiting workers to the said country. OFWs can instead, go directly to the accredited manpower agencies which have existing job orders from employers in New Zealand.

Most of the job openings for New Zealand are for construction workers which include bricklayers, blocklayers, carpenters, electricians, fabricators, painters, plasterers, and welders. Other available jobs are butcher, chef, CNC machinist, ductman, finisher floor, excavator operator, plumber, driver, diesel mechanic, laborer for dairy farm, asphalter, and wall paper installer. They need experienced and trained workers from these field of specializations probably to rebuild NZ’s second largest city which was damaged by a calamity back in 2011.

There are total of 26 accredited recruitment agencies that OFWs can check to apply for a job for New Zealand:

POEA Chief Cacdac reminded the accredited manpower agencies, and employers to follow the New Zealand and Philippine Laws and regulations when comes to recruitment and employment. Agencies should prohibit themselves from collecting placement fees from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that will be deployed to New Zealand since the latter is a “no placement fee country.”

New Zealand Job Openings for Filipinos 2015, Vacant Positions, and Manpower Agency List

Are you planning to apply for a job in New Zealand but do not know which accredited recruitment agencies to visit in the Philippines? Apparently, New Zealand has numerous job openings this 2015 for Filipinos.

The said country probably needs thousands of skilled workers (OFWs) that have work experience as Steelfixer, glaziers, welder, asphalter, assistant dairy farmer, carpenter, chef, electrician, Civil Engineer, and other field of specializations. Qualified applicants just need to know which specific recruitment agencies in the Philippines to send their well crafted resumes to.

According to New Zealand’s official website they have long-term and immediate skilled worker shortages in the following sectors: Agriculture and forestry, construction, education, engineering, finance / business, health and social services, recreation, hospitality and tourism, science, trades, and transport. They have immediate shortages on Oil and gas. Meanwhile, in Canterbury region where Christchurch City is located, has workers shortage particularly on construction, engineering, telecommunications, and trades.

New Zealand and the Philippines has no government-to-government agreement when comes to hiring OFWs. In this regard current POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac has list down New Zealand POEA accredited agencies that have job orders from employers in NZ. For safety reasons, and you know what I mean, OFWs who want to work there should only apply to the listed agencies.

Filipinos who aspire to work in New Zealand can also check the official POEA website occasionally to check for the latest NZ job orders posted in the said government website.

Placement Fee Policy for New Zealand

New Zealand is a no placement fee country. Based on POEA Memorandum Circular 09-2014 dubbed as Placement Fee Policy for New Zealand, manpower Agencies should not collect recruitment and placement fees from OFWs bound for NZ.

According to immigration.govt.nz, the New Zealand Wages Protection Act 1983 does not allow employers or recruitment agents to receive premiums like costs of employment or placement fees from newly hired workers. NZ Law however allow other fees such as immigration and visa fees, licensed immigration advisers fee, which will be shouldered by the workers.

Since July 2011 until October 2014, the New Zealand Immigration has approved 1806 temporary work visas for Filipinos for the rebuilding of Canterbury.

Note: This is only a blog and is not in anyway related to POEA or to the manpower agencies. For your own safety please inquire directly to the listed agencies their address, phone numbers, and website are already included in the post. You visit POEA website for the list of agencies that have job orders bound for New Zealand. Don’t place in the comments your complete name, mobile phone number, and email address.
